"From Building Bridges in 2005 to Shaping the Future in 2006….There is now clear evidence that the private equity industry has a positive impact on the wider European economy, with 1 million new jobs created by buyout or venture capital financed companies since 2000."

"I am delighted to welcome you to Monte-Carlo to discuss the future of our industry and making our economic contribution even greater."

Sir David Cooksey, EVCA Chairman 2005-2006
The EVCA Symposium was the main and most prestigious event of the European private equity and venture capital industry in 2006. It is the undisputed milestone event in addressing issues related to the development of our industry. Especially industry standards, politics and financial regulation, but recently the public image of private equity, are key aspects that need our attention.
Understanding these aspects requires extensive knowledge and experience of our industry – especially when it comes to finding appropriate solutions. This is why the EVCA Symposium attracts the most senior private equity and venture capital practitioners in Europe, not only young talent eager to expand their knowledge as well as their network.
In 2006, high-level debates on shaping our collective future in the private equity industry were the driving theme throughout the EVCA Symposium. With world-class speakers such as Professor Laura Tyson, Dean of London Business School, who served in the Clinton White House and was US National Economic Advisor between 1995 and 1996; Professor Eli Talmor, a founding Academic Director of London Business School’s Private Equity Institute, who has previously been listed in Business Week as among the ‘Outstanding Professors’ in its Guide to Business Schools, and Jonathon Porritt, Co-Founder and Programme Director of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, provided his insights on how business needs to put sustainable development at the core of what it does.
The remainder of the event featured a combination of world class speakers discussing cutting edge topics affecting our industry – chaired and moderated by a well known British broadcaster and journalist, Peter Sissons. The event’s high quality social programme added a finishing touch to this.
