Derek Sach is currently Managing Director, Specialised Lending Services at The Royal Bank of Scotland plc and a member of the Board of the Corporate Markets Division.
He joined The Royal Bank of Scotland in 1992 to set up Specialised Lending Services as a separate business, to develop ways to help customers whose businesses have problems or show signs of potential problems. Derek was appointed Director, Group Risk, in September 1994, and was responsible for the effective control and monitoring of risk within the Group, encompassing Market and Operational Risk Management, Credit Policy, Risk Review, and Specialised Lending Services. In 1997 he was seconded for one year as Chief Executive to Tesco Personal Finance (TPF), a joint venture between The Royal Bank of Scotland and Tesco. During this period he brought together the financial skills and the marketing skills of the respective partners to establish a new approach to retail finance.
He is currently a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Associated British Ports Holdings PLC and Priority Sites Limited, and is Immediate Past President of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also a Governor of the National Society for Epilepsy. He is Chairman of the West Register property companies and was previously Chairman of Charles Church Group plc and a Director of the Berkeley Group PLC.
Formerly a member of the Board of 3i Group Plc also a MD of 3i Group, responsible for the UK investment operations of 3i and the Group's Marketing and Industry activities, Derek was Chairman of the 3i property companies and Chairman of the Investment Committee.
