Colin B Watts, TLcom Capital Partners
Colin Watts (44), joined TLCom Capital Partners Ltd as a General Partner in January 2002. At TLCom he has made four investments including IXI Mobile and Cognima in the mobile data market, PacketFront in the Broadband Equipment space and Eblana Photonics in the optical components arena.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Watts was a Director of the General Partner of Draper Fisher Jurvetson ePlanet Ventures L.P. where he jointly, with Giuseppe Curatolo, established the European office in August 2000.
While at DFJ ePlanet Mr. Watts established the firm in Europe building an extensive network of contacts in all the major early stage technology regions including England, Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Israel and France. During this period Mr. Watts lead early stage investments in: Eplication, a French/Israeli based company in the Content Delivery Technology and Services market and an IXI Mobile an Israeli/US based mobile infrastructure company. Additionally, he led an expansion stage investment in HarmonyCom an Israeli based OSS company.
Before joining DFJ, he was with Cisco Systems Inc where he established and developed the European Investment and Acquisition operation and, since 1998, has focussed on Pan-European early-stage networking and technology investments. During this period the total European transaction volume grew from a very low level to $270m in the first full year, and to over $4.5bn in the last complete financial year. Whilst at Cisco Systems Inc, Colin contributed to the origination, arrangement and execution of investments in: Enition, a French start-up developing infrastructure technology for Internet micro-payments; ID2, a Swedish security technology company developing high end PKI products; HarmonyCom, an Israeli OSS product company; Eyretel, a UK based CRM related company, and RiverSoft, a UK based network management company. In addition, he sourced and arranged the acquisition of Qeyton Systems, a Swedish metro DWDM Technology Company for $800m.
Prior to joining Cisco Systems, Mr. Watts held senior corporate business development and marketing roles in Racal -Datacom. While at Racal he focussed on designing and implementing growth strategies for the Data Group including major re-structuring and acquisitions.
Prior to Racal, he held operational positions with Cable Wireless PLC.
Mr. Watts holds a 1st class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nottingham University in England, was a Chartered Engineer (C Eng) and holds a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance.
